La pelicula presenta una vista panoramica de la musica que floreció en la comunidad Latina del Sur del Bronx desde los años quarenta, cuando Mambo brotó en la escena cultural de New York, hasta que naciera el Hip Hop en los años setenta.

La peliciula representa dos generaciones de personas que se acrecieron en las mismisimas calles, ambos grupos utilizaron el ritmo como su forma de rebelión – para los padres fue el ritmo sensual de Cuba; para sus hijos fue el ritmo energetico de Rap. La pelicula cuenta como la musica crió y soportó una comunidad y como triunfó la comunidad.

The film presents a panoramic view of the music that blossomed in the latino community of the South Bronx from the late 1940’s, when mambo burst onto the New York cultural scene, through the birth of hip hop in the 1970s. The film chronicles two generations who grew up literally on the same streets, and both used rhythm as their form of rebellion - for the older generation it was the pulsating rhythms of Cuba; for their children it was the rhythms of rap. It explores how music helped create a community and how community triumphed.
